The Basics

Name: Ardent Melissa Davenport
Age: 24
Element: Wind
Classification: Citizen
Birth Kingdom: Ignis
Home Kingdom: Ignis

Appearance

Playby: Anne Hathaway

Personality

Personality: Ardent is charisma and grace personified. She laughs often and loudly, smiles even when no one is looking, and charms most everyone she meets. When she moves, she glides. It's as if everyone around her is the punchline to a private joke only she knows.

She is a shameless flirt as well. Men or women, old or young, no one is safe from her endless string of innuendos and suggestive smirks. Ardie makes frequent use of pouts, batting lashes, and sniffles when she doesn't get her way, which isn't often. If that doesn't work, then she is not beyond throwing tantrums.

On the surface, Ardent is a coy, spoiled, and vain socialite. And while those are all apt adjectives to describe her, she is much more than meets the eye. She is a highly talented singer - so talented, in fact, that she is world renowned. She is also a member of the Ignis rebellion and a spy. While she does her best not to show it, she is also extremely generous, compassionate, and kind to those she believes are deserving.

As necessary for her secret profession, Ardie is also an actress. She can change her entire demeanor at the drop of the hat, if the situation calls for it. Though she usually maintains an air of cheerful mischief, she can appear demure, sweet, vapid, or sassy, if she feels that is what will further her goals. She lies easily and almost compulsively, creating a maze of deceit that not even she can navigate at times. The only certain thing about Ardie is that you can never be certain about her. Her ulterior motives have ulterior motives.

Likes:

  • IGNIS Ardent is fiercely loyal to her home country. So loyal, in fact, that she can recognize the evil the queen is bringing upon her beloved nation and do her best to stop it - whatever the cost.
  • TRAVEL Though she loves Ignis above all else, she also loves to travel and experience new places. It's one of the many benefits of being a gallavanting socialite-singer. She avoids Terra, for obvious reasons, as well as the Glacies, but flits around the rest of the countries, usually in the company of some rich old coot or another.
  • MONEY Ardie was born into money and people still keep giving it to her. She's grown accustomed to the finer things in life. Her gowns are made from the finest silks and laces, her barettes are jade and pearl, and her servants are from all over the world, paid to make sure she stays abreast of current trends. She has a long list of "benefactors" - e.g., men she has either slept with or who want to sleep with her - from every continent.
  • SINGING This is her official career, almost-sort-of. The world's wealthy send her an invitation to their shindig just to enjoy herself, she "impulsively" decides to sing, and the host gives her a generous "thank you gift". Ardie doesn't mind at all; she loves to sing and feels it to be the only way in which she can be honest with herself and everyone else.
  • MEN Men are responsible for over half of Ardie's considerable fortune. And they're so easy. Of course, she enjoys men physically as well and isn't ashamed or embarrassed to say so.

Dislikes:

  • DIRT Ardent cannot stand being dirty in the least. She takes at least two baths a day. When stepping out of her carriage on a rainy day, she must either be lifted or a coat draped over the mud puddle. If not, there will be hell to pay.
  • ARROGANCE While Ardent is vain, she's not necessarily arrogant. Unfortunately, most of the men she consorts with are. She is not so high on her pedestal that she cannot stop and offer a few coins to a down-on-his-luck stranger. Nothing irritates her more than when those who have so much refuse to give to those with considerably less.
  • JULIANNA KRISTIA Ardie has met the queen and performed for her birthday, even. Even before she joined the rebellion, she was not a fan.
  • NOT BEING TAKEN SERIOUSLY In the rebellion, that is. Her status as a rich playgirl has led to many in the movement thinking less of her and her dedication. Ardent is torn between not caring and trying to prove herself and usually ends up frustrated instead.

Elemental Strengths
  • CARRYING SOUND Ardent developed this technique herself. Using wind, she is able to carry sounds to her and away from her. This way, she can sing and be amplified in any surroundings and pull whispers to her discreetly. It feels like nothing more than a slight gust of wind.
  • MINOR CONTROL Most of her abilities are used in a superficial way, such as using breezes to tousle her hair, to waft away a bad smell, etc.

Elemental Weaknesses
  • MAJOR CONTROL Ardent can't really do much more than what is listed above, though she is trying to improve.

Background

Family:
Mother - Melissa Davenport (Wind Consular, Deceased)
Father - Emerich Davenport (Fire Citizen, Deceased)
Siblings - None
Other - Many relatives, all of them in high positions.

History:
Emerich, a high-standing noble, and Melissa, his wife of fifteen years, had been having a great deal of trouble having a child. Emerich refused to believe it was his fault and Melissa had just about given up on the prospect. She was reaching the end of her child-bearing years and he was nearing fifty. And then, he proposed a divorce. If Melissa couldn't provide him with a child, surely, some other woman might.

Nine months later, they had a beautiful baby girl. Emerich was so relieved to finally have a child that he forgot to be disappointed he didn't have a son. They named their daughter Ardent, one of Melissa's favorite words. Enthusiasm, passion, fire, she wanted her daughter to be the human manifestation of all those qualities, just as Melissa never was.

Melissa got her wish. Ardent was as exciting and excitable as her name declared. Everywhere she went, she charmed. She was smart as a whip, cute as a button, and rambunctious to boot. She took well to all her studies as a young court lady, but especially excelled in singing and dancing, which she did all over the capital streets. She was her parents' pride and joy.

Ardent entered into the court fully at the age of fifteen. Immediately, her parents began fielding offers for marriage, but Ardent already had someone in mind for herself. The House of Davenport was close to the House of Hammond and had been even before Ardent's birth. The head of the house was an older gentleman nearing forty, a war veteran, and widowed, with two children. Ardent had loved him as soon as she knew what love was.

He was a staunch revolutionist and rumor had it that he was part of the rebellion. That added with his age, his slightly lower rank, and the fact that he already had children made Emerich and Melissa dismiss the idea of a match without a thought. But poor Ardent was in love and Elyas Hammond was as well.

Late at night, she would ride to his nearby estate. At balls and gatherings, they would steal away into secret passages and unused rooms. After their couplings, he would regale her with tales of war, of his philosophies, and his activites in the rebellion. She took these tales to heart.

For a time, they were happy. But that was not to last. Ardent was discovered leaving the house late one night and put under guard. Shortly thereafter, Elyas was hanged for treason. Ardent was devastated, despondent, catatonic in her grief. Fearing for her health, her parents took her on vacation to the southern coast. While there, the small coastal town was bombed by a terrorist attack. Ardent was able to escape the flames in the chaos and was met with the harrowing sight of women and children being hauled by their hair by masked assailants. One of the women fought viciously and tore at her attacker's face and body. Ardent swore she saw the face of a soldier she knew and a piece of the Ignis Royal crest beneath his black clothing.

Ardent returned to the capital an orphan. She was eighteen now, old enough to inherit her family's fortune. The suitors came in droves, but Ardent was more interested in vengeance than romance. Honing her talents in wind, she was able to catch whispers of who she might be able to talk to in order to join the rebellion.

At first, they were hesitant. The House of Davenport was well-known in Ignis and Ardent was one of the most eligible bachelorettes in the entire kingdom. After some convincing, however, they found a place for her, one she suggested. She would become a spy. Using her looks, charms, singing talent, and position, she would gather information from not just the local government, but from all over the world. Her true love was dead, her parents murdered, and all she wanted was to honor their memories. There was nothing else for her.

It was then that Ardent began her career as a jet-setting debutante and international spy. Six years later, she is still the toast of the town and still loyal to the rebellion.

Quote :
He set down his artwork just as he heard the creak signaling the opening of his door. Right on time then, he supposed. No one ever came to his little neck of the woods - not without having been sent by the castle proper. Once every few months, when weather permitted, he would receive visitors from the Vale. Servants, mostly. Sometimes his mother, when it was less frigid than usual. They brought with them victuals, supplies, news, and most importantly, company.

It had been two months since he had spoken to another living soul. Ioan was quite excited. The only thing better than a guest was a surprise guest.

"Please, be comfortable!" He shouted from his bedroom toward the small living area as he stepped out of his bed. He wrapped a ragged old robe around him and pushed his feet into slippers. "I will be with you shortly."

There was no use in wondering how he looked. He didn't have to deal with the displeasure of seeing himself. He had not shaven since his last visitor and he had last cut his hair a week ago - though it had been less a hair cut and more a hair hacking. Dragging his hand over his face told him that he had a full beard on his face and bags under his eyes. Beneath his robe, he could feel his own ribs. He did clean himself regularly as he could not stand his own stench and his nails were trimmed to avoid scratching himself in his sleep, but he was in no way presentable.

He opened the door to his living room and stepped out. He knew his home was neat and it had to be. Otherwise, he would not be able to find a thing. He had his own system of filing the many pieces of parchment and books lain about on his tables and shelves, but the system mostly consisted of what pleased him at that moment. His books were all organized from smallest to largest, his pots and pans hung at strange but precise angles, his drawings were pinned all over the walls, some grouped by art style and others by subject matter. Pieces of parchment were stacked everywhere, usually in ornate patterns.

"Close the door, would you? It's bloody fuck cold out there. Hello, how are you? I wasn't expecting you tonight, except I was, but I didn't have much notice, you see. Would you like some tea? How many of you are there? I can only hear one person breathing, but I assume there are more of you. Outside, perhaps. Funny, I don't think you're a bear at all. At any rate, tea?" Ioan rambled, some of his words barely audible, all of it slurred.
