The Basics

Name: Noemi Eulalia Ilda
Age: 22
Element: Health
Classification: Consular
Birth Kingdom: Valetudo
Home Kingdom: Valetudo

Appearance

Playby: Jennifer Lawrence

Personality

Personality:
In the public eye and under her mother's watch, Noemi is everything a princess ought to be - demure, proud, regal, etc. This is not an act she puts on so much as another aspect of herself. She takes her birth right very seriously and sees it as her responsibility to maintain stability and calm, even when her country is under duress. Being raised royalty has made Noemi very mature for her years, to the point where many of the servants affectionately refer to her as "the old maid". She is conservative in dress, prudish, and a stickler for titles.

Under normal circumstances, Noemi is very near a shrew. She lectures her siblings, cleans constantly, and is always making her opinions very clearly known, whether or not anyone actually wanted to hear them. She nurtures to the point of being almost overbearing in the way of a mother who's seen too much. Even her patients are subjected to this treatment. God forbid they not change their bandages in a timely fashion because Noemi will know and they will be disciplined. While not exactly loud, Noemi is not above interrupting someone when she doesn't like what they have to say. Excuses don't carry very much weight with her and she doesn't make any herself.

Though passionate and stubborn, Noemi can be naive in her ideals. Having seen firsthand the evils of violence, she is a staunch pacifist and believes that every problem can and should be resolved by politics rather than bloodshed. Except to comfort the dying, the very young, and very old, Noemi never lies. She will dodge questions that she doesn't want to answer or even bluntly say that it's none of the asker's business, but she believes very strongly in honesty being the best policy. Besides that, she's an awful liar with a tendency to fidget.

Noemi has anxiety issues and has suffered from panic attacks ever since childhood. Her physician believes it is from being raised so publicly. If a situation spirals out of control and she cannot fix it, she becomes catatonic. She has more than once hurt herself during one of her fits. Outside of panic attacks, she is a neat freak and when nervous, bored, or worried, she will clean anything and everything around her.

One of her more frustrating qualities is her dearth of courage. Though she understands the concept of danger, Noemi has never been in true peril and therefore, tends to ignore it. She always seems to underestimate the difficulty and hazards of any given situation, especially if someone needs help and she can give the help to them. It's fair to say that she's a big cocky in her ignorance. Even though her family is under strict lock down, Noemi still escapes whenever possible to put her healing skills to use, feed the poor, and hand out money, usually in a very poor disguise.

Noemi's fears are more abstract than that of death or bodily injury. She is more afraid of losing her country and family than her life. Even more than that, she is afraid that although she is not first in line to the throne, that she will become strapped to it anyway and be an ineffective ruler. Her mother's recent cowering to the Glaciens have filled her with a deep, dark anger, but she is at a loss as to what to do, but her sense of responsibility will not allow her to sit still for long.

Likes:

  • Learning Being the princess of one of the most learned countries in the world has given Noemi access to the best tutors and libraries. She absorbs knowledge like a sponge, even if there's no way for her to practically apply it.
  • Cleaning When under stress, Noemi finds scrubbing and organizing to be the most comforting and has been known to chase away servants to do it. Once, as a teenager before her coming out ball, she was so nervous she shoveled the stables.
  • Healing She feels that as much as being a Valetudian is her calling, so is healing. She is good at it and always strives to improve.
  • Lecturing Though she will never admit it, Noemi quite enjoys talking with authority, whether or not she has a willing audience.
  • Valetudo Every aspect of her country, from the architecture to the people, fill Noemi with great pride and she does whatever she can to help her kingdom in its time of need.

Dislikes:

  • PDA Public displays of affection make her deeply uncomfortable, even if it is as tame as holding hands. Blood and carnage don't have nearly so great an effect on her.
  • Marriage Noemi is scared to death at the idea of marrying, but she knows and accepts that her freedom will be over soon enough.
  • Violence As a healer, Noemi has seen what havoc violence can wreak upon people and their families. She hates violence passionately and strongly believes that it should never be an option.
  • Conflicting Views She's a lecturer, not a debater. People who disagree with her and are vocal about doing so annoy the shit out of her.
  • Flirtation Noemi is very easily embarrassed and extremely prudish. Make one slightly off-color comment and watch her flush.

Elemental Strengths
  • Lacerations Noemi is very good at quickly and efficiently mending deep wounds with little scarring.
  • Bone Setting Broken, fractured, and cracked bones present no difficulty to her.
  • Anti-Healing She has recently discovered that she is able to harm people with her abilities by essentially tearing them apart. It is a very distressing ability.

Elemental Weaknesses
  • Terminal/Recurring Illnesses Though she can lessen the symptoms temporarily, she cannot heal them.
  • Infection Clearing infections is very difficult for her, making her very insistent that her patients keep themselves and their environments as clean as possible.
  • Self-Healing She is incapable of healing herself.

Background

Family:
Mother - Eufenia Ilda, Health Master
Father - Alessandro Ilda, Health Apprentice
Siblings -
__________ Ilda, elder brother
__________ Ilda, younger sister
__________ Ilda, younger sister

Other - Various relatives connected distantly and closely to the royal family of Valetudo.

History:
Noemi Eulalia was born the second child to Queen Eufenia of Valetudo and her consort, Alessandro Giono, who took the last name of his wife as per the customs of the land. Her birth was met with much celebration across the land, as were the births of all her siblings. Even as a toddler, Noemi was bossy, taking command of all games and directing all her playmates to their places. She was also unusually neat and would throw tantrums if her things were not placed exactly where she wanted them. As she grew older, she mellowed somewhat, but was still prone to straightening her little sister's dresses and, when nervous or otherwise distressed, would scrub floors and wash windows until her hands bled.

Eufenia felt very strongly about involving herself and her children with their subjects and imparted that philosophy upon Noemi. At least once a day, her mother would tell her and their siblings, "love your people and they will love you." The wealth of the nation allowed for many festivals, celebrations, and parades, most of which the royal family attended. When they were of an appropriate age, around ten or so, their mother would have them sit in the throne room with her to hear the complaints of the people or to attend council meetings.

Noemi's healing abilities manifested early. When her little sisters or elder brother skinned their knees or bumped their heads, she was always ready to patch them up. With both parents being of the health system and her mother a master at that, no one found it unusual that Noemi showed skill before she turned thirteen, when she was already dubbed an apprentice. Tutors helped her train and augment her skills until she reached the rank of consular at age nineteen.

Eufenia was very adamant in her children seeing the plight of the lower folk and demanded that they not be complacent in their high standing. Though Valetudo was a rich country, it still had its share of poverty. Every month or so, Eufenia would send her children out among the people - well-guarded, of course - to give charity. Noemi supplemented the charity by healing those in need; usually, healers who could not heal themselves. In this, Noemi found great fulfillment. Helping others made her feel complete, like she had found her niche in life. Soon enough, she was going out more than once a month, whether she had guards or not.

At fifteen, she and the other court girls her age had their coming out ball. The entire ordeal made her so anxious she nearly suffered a breakdown. It was then she decided that love simply wouldn't be for her, that nothing could be worth the discomfort of being assessed and appraised. She flat out told her mother that a marriage would have to be arranged for her and put it out of her mind after that. At that time, a royal engagement was not a huge concern and so, the idea was placed on the back burner, just as Noemi hoped it would be.

In the next few years, turmoil around the world worsened, but Valetudo maintained its serenity -until the Glaciens began knocking. At first, Noemi was not extremely concerned. Her mother had proved herself a competent ruler and she was confident that the ordeal could be solved without bloodshed. Unfortunately, the Glaciens only seemed to be getting more aggressive and her mother more...ineffectual. Her parents had little time for their children, mostly grown now, and even less time to hear their children's counsel, though Noemi tried very hard to offer it. Her ideas fell upon deaf ears and her frustrations grew. They reached higher peaks still when the Brothers started pouring in from Ventus and her personal freedoms were limited.

At this juncture, Noemi is at wit's end and very angry with the state of affairs in her country. Though she and her family are on lock down, she still sneaks out often to help the common people, as she believes they need her more than ever.

Quote :

Lady Ardent Davenport flipped open her fan and coaxed a small breeze to assist in cooling the balmy night air. In Searik, it was always warm due to the lava flows, but tonight was unseasonably so. She was happy in her decision to wear linen and lace tonight, as opposed to the heavier silk gown she had been considering. Either option was as opulent as the occasion demanded, but in this crimson number, she did not feel the desire to strip naked and splash about in the nearest fountain. She considered it anyway; something had to be done to brighten the party and it would hardly be seen as out of character for Ardent, the international bon vivant. Her dress' plunging neckline hardly left much to the imagination anyway.

It was the birthday of a government official. Thus, anyone who was anyone was in attendance, meaning everyone was in attendance, whether or not they were truly as important as they thought themselves to be. This particular official had invited the elite and...not-so-elite from all over the world, save for Terra, of course. Even a few Glaciens were there, sweating heavily beneath their furs, sideshow oddities exchanging awkward glares with the few Undans present. The entire event was a show in narcissism. Lavish food, expensive liquor, and garish flower arrangements crowded every table. There had been four speeches, all attesting to the greatness of the birthday boy, that everyone had stayed annoyingly silent during. Not even a mutter floated on the wind during those, though there had been a few quiet snores.

Later in the evening, Ardent would be expected to sing. Now, there was mingling to be had. Her date, a Sir Humphrey Carmichael, had suggested they abscond to the coat room, but she politely declined, citing a headache for her lack of desire, which before had been ravenous. No canoodling before she had the opportunity to ply her craft of professional eavesdropping. Business before pleasure - not that anything to do with the pompous (and selfish) Sir Humphrey could especially be termed pleasurable.

After some clever social maneuvering, she had managed to escape her boorish flavor of the week and retire to the balcony, where the air was crisper and cooler. Sweating at a ball would have made her no better than the Glaciens. From here, she had an excellent vantage point of all the goings on and was mostly out of view; otherwise, sycophants and plebeians would spot her and promptly chat her ear off.

She sipped delicately at her wine and summoned another wind, this time to bring her news rather than lower temperatures. At the moment, she was quite alone, but there was no telling how long that would be so.
