Born into an affluent Seran family, Kalyani has been provided for nearly her entire life. Spoiled in some respects - she wants for nothing material. Until recently, with her separation from her family, that is. She knows the traditions and culture of her people; her own family, even with their politics, practice them still. Her life had also been planned for her, and while she lived her life without refuting this. She trusts authority, and is often confused when it does not provide the guidance associated with them. Currently she lives in a sort of ambivalence as to authority; she believes they are to be trusted but subconsciously she has her doubts.

Because she has always been taken care of, and because most of her time had been scheduled for her, Kalyani genuinely doesn't know what to do when plans fail, or when her schedules are not met. She has a constant tick of pulling an ornate watch from her pocket and checking the time; she'll arrive at her destination hours early to avoid being late. She can cope with deviations from her daily routines, and her weekly routines, but only if she knows well in advance when her routine will change.

Kalyani is still a reasonably personable woman; she can take a few minutes of unoccupied time to gossip, or discuss arts, history, or otherwise. If she is not in a mood to smile, she at least keeps her head held high. In past years she has been proud of her family and status, but since her family sent her away she has realized that being of status in Seran is far unlike being of status in Valetudo, and that many people seem to believe that all residents of Sera live in the bush. In Sera, her family name was impressive; in Valetudo it meant nothing at all. To compensate, she had to perfect the art of social politics, which she had never needed to play at home. She still missteps, sometimes, confusing local expressions with Seran ones.

Naive as a consequence of her lifestyle, Kalyani has long been unused to criticism, and deception. She doesn't recognize lies, and is greatly unused to harsh critique of her performances. She loves dancing, and used to love performing, but after a particularly harsh critic compared her dancing to a circus act, she finds herself intensely nervous before shows. It takes some coaxing to open her up; even in her courses she no longer speaks up without being directly prompted.

• Fruits - Kalyani prefers fruit over bread, and bread over meat. She especially loves mangos, and was quite disappointed when she realized how scarce they are in Valetudo.
  
• Valetudo - She prefers Valetudo over Sera in some respects. The people of Valetudo are generally more educated than the people of Sera, leaving her free to discuss
  
• Women - Kalyani has no interest in men. She's far more likely to stare longingly at a beautiful woman than a handsome man, though she is somewhat embarrassed by this attraction.

Dislikes:

• Her Element - Kalyani's family (and by extension, her local Elementalist temple) has traditionally considered water to be sacred, as water brings life to all around it. By contrast, fire is viewed as a force of destruction, and is considered evil. Just by having fire as her element, her right to the family land was revoked. She was discouraged from using it once she uncovered it, and continues to be very wary of her own element.
  
• Creationism - Like most residents of Sera, Kalyani is an Elementalist, and she does not agree with the Creationist teachings - she generally finds them silly.
  
• Men - Rather than being a misandrist, Kalyani simply has no interest in men. She is not attracted to them, and is very uncomfortable when they admit attraction to her. There is always a slight discomfort for Kalyani when she is around an unrelated man, although this is easily overcome.
  
• Breaking Schedule - If Kalyani has her day, or week, planned out, she doesn't want it broken. She keeps a pocket watch with her at all times, checking it frequently when she has a schedule set. (She also goes to bed at exactly the same time each night, and often dozes off throughout the day if she falls asleep too early or too late.)

Elemental Strengths

• Kalyani cannot create powerful combustions; she can rub her hands together and cause them to reach smoldering temperatures instead. She can touch a candle to light it, or hold a piece of metal to leave it dangerously hot, or easily cook an egg. It's very obvious when she's doing this, as her hands will blacken on the pads of her fingers and palms, and smoke will give off.
  
• Kalyani can control the smoke given off once her hands begin to smolder, using them to create silhouettes and vague images. She uses them in her dance routines to emphasize her movements.
  

Elemental Weaknesses

• Kalyani's combustions are unsurprisingly small and confined, and she seems unable to make them at a distance from her person. She cannot even control flames that she herself did not create herself, and sometimes loses control of her own fire. Once it leaves her hands, it also leaves her control. Smoke seems to be the only exception.
