The Basics

Name: Lestelle Narayan
Age: 27
Element: Plant
Classification: Consular
Birth Kingdom: Sera
Home Kingdom: Sera

Appearance

Appearance: Lestelle's hair is short and auburn, like her mother's. A thin woman, she wears light, padded leather armor when outside of Seran's walls, and paints various designs on her cheeks and forehead. Within Seran, she often wears bright colored clothes that are practical for an alchemist such as herself, and wears hawk-feather earrings almost every day. She always wears her thick leather belt, which holds several pouches in which she keeps samples of both medicinal and poisonous plants and fungi.

Personality

Personality: Lestelle is a somber woman. Exposed at an early age to many dead bodies, death is as natural and plentiful as life to her. She understands the value of hard work, a value drilled into her at an early age by her hard working parents. Growing up in the slums of Seran, Lestelle met and worked with all manner of men and women, from bums to hunters to convicts escaping the law. If a large enough offer is made, anything is worth doing to Lestelle, legal or not. She supports those who wish to see the king removed, believing that her nation is not yet ready for someone with absolute power, and instead needs the collective minds of a council to catch up to the other kingdoms that rely on one ruler.

Lestelle sees past someone's past, what crimes they've committed or what deeds they've done, and holds people accountable for who they are in the moment. Since her good friend Zetia was lost to the jungle, she searches the jungle every year on the day they met, hoping to find an answer to where her friend may have gone to. Now, though, she has few friends, and many associates. Men and women ranging from assassins to thieves to corrupt politicians have used her services to dispose of unwanted bodies, and Lestelle is not opposed to calling in various favors from those that she works with regularly. She does not know what she believes in. She believes that the controls were gifted to humanity as guides, but their world had to come from somewhere, and where else but from a god?

Likes:

  • Caves. The Jungle is nice, but when night falls, no one wants to be stuck amidst its endless trees and vines. Lestelle has learned where many caves are through her years of exploring the jungle. Within them, she finds all manner of new fungus to add to her collection.

  • Dirt. Everything organic, be it human, animal, plant or mushroom, eventually degrades back into soil. It is this cycle that has been the focal point of all of her studies, and it is this cycle that allows her line of work to exist.

  • Zetia. Her childhood friend, while very different from Lestelle, shared almost her entire life with her. Almost like a sister, Lestelle never understood quite why she loved Zetia, but couldn't imagine her life without her. That is, until Zetia did not return from a hunt in the Jungle when Lestelle was 14.

  • Zetia's Dagger. A hybrid of three different strains of poisonous fungus, Zetia's Dagger is Lestelle's signature poison. A few spores of this strain in the bloodstream will leave anyone with a sharp pain in their heart. Within 30 seconds, the victim will begin caughing up blood, and the pain begins to feel like a stab to the heart. The strain is very slow growing, and must be specially cultivated by Lestelle. She cannot speed its growth or create new fungi of it, or else she will surely contract the poison herself.

Dislikes:

  • Politicians. In the young nation of Sera, few politicians actually know what they are doing, leaving the vast majority of them to seem like selfish pigs. Most simply bought their positions, which they use to further their businesses. The day a commoner is granted an audience in the capital will be a historic one, but until then, Lestelle will keep an eye on her purse and dagger around the likes of politicians. They are some of the few people Lestelle actually enjoys disposing of.

  • Jaguars. These agile and powerful beasts are as at home in the jungle as Lestelle, and more than a few encounters with them have left Lestelle weary and hateful of them, having lost two associates to their teeth and claws.

  • Seafood. Be it fish or clam, rarely can Lestelle keep seafood down. She much rather prefers a thick mushroom chowder.

  • Red Illita. Nearly identical to the medicinal flower Red Primrose, Red Illita causes paralysis within an hour if consumed. While the medicinal values of Red Primrose are great, it is too risky to gather it, as a single Red Illita added to the mix could poison a dozen people.

Elemental Strengths
  • Rapid growing plants, such as fungus, grasses and vines, are Lestelle's specialty. She can greatly accelerate and direct their growth to the point where she can grow at least a few full grown poisonous spores on each arrow of a quiver, though she must dip the arrowhead into a solution in a bottle attached to a belt. This solution is filled with millions of spores, a special concoction which, if drank, would kill the victim before they could drop the bottle. If Lestelle is without her solution, she can simply stab the arrowhead into an already grown mushroom to gain the same effect, or create an entirely new culture of it, though this would require much more energy and focus. But the ability she is most well known for is her aptitude for the disposal of bodies. Fungi can completely consume a body in less than a few hours if accelerated properly by Lestelle, though this requires much focus and energy. These fungi are not poisonous, but are rather simply scavengers, and as such do not require as much energy to create anew. If a body surely will not be discovered within a week, Lestelle can simply leave the beginnings of the colonies on the body and leave it to the work of nature.

  • Soft, malleable plants that are already alive are an entirely different matter. Lestelle can call to surrounding vines and leaves, weaving them like tendrils to her command, though she can only control a few of these at any time, and not for longer than at most 10 minutes. When used sparingly, this allows her to ascend and descend between the different levels of the canopy. In battle, though, this allows her a near infinite source of whips, and when on the run, can allow her to call down a blizzard of leaves to mask her escape.

Elemental Weaknesses
  • To create life, one must give life, and such each plant Lestelle brings to life drains from her strength and vitality, and weakens her immune system. If she were to grow her spores on every arrow of an entire quiver, she would risk poisoning herself with her own spores, though by that time her arms would likely be too weak to draw the bowstring back. She would have to take great care if in the jungle, as she would need at least a day for her immune system to recover. The same would apply if she were to completely consume an entire body herself, without leaving the mushrooms alone.

  • Many Plant controllers favor the powers of the trees, using their sturdy limbs as weapons and shields. This is a concept that Lestelle has never mastered. While soft plants are controlled easily by Lestelle, anything less malleable, such as timber, roots or nuts are entirely beyond her control.

  • Lestelle is connected to every plant she controls, and feels their pain as if it were her own. Severing a vine she is controlling will feel as though she has lost a finger, and stepping on one of her mushrooms as it feeds will feel like Lestelle's bones are breaking.

Background

Family:
Mother - Lais Narayan, Plant Apprentice
Father - Pacal Narayan, Plant Citizen
Siblings - None.
Other - None.

History: Lestelle's father hails from the Kutsagi tribe, known for their cultivation of medicinal herbs. Her mother comes from a family of farmers that lived just outside Seran's walls. When the two married, Pacal left his tribe to set up shop in Seran with Lais. They lived in a small, mud-brick and thatch roof house in the Seran slums. There, only small paths at the edges of the roads ever remained firm, while the middle was always a slosh of mud. Many people there were hungry, and even more were suffering from illness, so together they started a business creating and selling medicines, with Lais fertilizing and directing the plants with her powers, and Pacal creating potions with his. They made good money, but never enough to leave the slums. When Lestelle was born, money became more of an issue.

From a very early age, Lestelle showed a love for the mushrooms in her mother's garden. At the small community-taught classes that she and the rest of the neighborhood children attended, she met an Earth controller named Zetia. Zetia was two years older than Lestelle, and came from a broken family, her father long gone and her mother addicted to alcohol. After playing together for a year, Lestelle's parents had finally had enough of having to send the poor girl home to her abusive mother, and offered to purchase her from her mother with what little money they had saved up. The woman was glad to have Zetia out of her hands.

Lestelle and Zetia progressed rapidly together with their elements. By the age of 8, Lestelle was cultivating her own small garden, and Zetia was pushing rocks half her size. In the street outside their home, the two would often play-fight together, shoving tripping each other with cleverly placed vines and stones.

But suddenly having another mouth to feed takes its toll on a family, and soon the family was running out of money. Forced to work, the older Zetia began hunting in the jungle at the age of 12, leaving 10 year old Lestelle by herself most of the time. Lestelle missed her friend, and as puberty began to change her, she started to see beauty in the more poisonous plants in her garden. As Zetia's hunts grew longer and longer, Lestelle's garden grew more and more deadly.

Then when Lestelle was 14, she had her first fight with Zetia. Lestelle had told her to stop hunting and come home for good. Zetia stormed out of the room, not telling anyone how she had witnessed a hunter be killed by his own trap during the previous hunt, and how it had seriously disturbed her. To Lestelle, Zetia seemed mad at her, and when she pursued her, Zetia threw Lestelle to the ground with a thrown rock. An emotional Lestelle whipped a vine at Zetia, cutting a gash in her cheek. With that, Zetia ran back to the city gates, running into the jungle, leaving Lestelle to think it was her fault.

When Zetia never returned Lestelle stayed in her garden for days on end. It was almost completely filled with poisonous plants and fungi now, and she began to mix them together into potions. She sold the weaker ones as rat poison and bug repellant. But when a low level politician secretly came to visit Lestelle's father seeking a cure for a rash he had received from a whore, Pacal accidentally gave him one of Lestelle's more potent poisons, killing the man almost on the spot. Pacal had committed murder.

Fearing for her family, Lestelle proposed the idea of disposing of the body. She had watched her mushrooms consume all manner of dead animals, and thought the same could be done for the body. So that night, Pacal and Lestelle took the man's body into the jungle, seeded it with spores and covered it with vines, and vowed to never speak of the incident again.

A year later, when Lestelle turned 16, she left her home to move further into the city. There, she was forced to begin stealing when she couldn't afford food or rent. Soon, a group of thieves took her in, keeping her safe from the law and teaching her a thing or two about theft. An older man in the group, Monty DeFranco, taught her how to handle a bow and arrow.

As new laws and regulations were put forth by Sera's new king, Lestelle's group of thieves began to use her abilities to their advantage. Lestelle began cultivating hallucinogenic mushrooms for distribution to citizens in the slums and nearby tribes. The business of drugs can be a lot more deadly than that of stealing purses, and every now and then, a guard would have to be killed. Again, Lestelle's abilities were used to the groups advantage, allowing them to dispose of bodies easily and effectively. She lived like this, growing drugs and taking care of bodies for 5 years.

As word spread of Lestelle's abilities amongst the criminals of Seran, she was eventually contacted by an amateur assassin. He commissioned from her a deadly poison, and within a few days, he payed her a sum of money to dispose of the body. The assassin would take it to the jungle, she simply had to let her mushrooms consume it.

When she reached the meeting spot, she saw the body of old Monty DeFranco. Playing it cool, Lestelle asked who this man was. "An old soldier from Ignis." the assassin replied. "He should have picked a friendlier kingdom to seek asylum. Apparently he committed a few war crimes back in Ignis." Lestelle nodded, and knelt down to begin planting her spores. The assassin tossed down the remainder of Lestelle's fee and asked "How long will this take?" Lestelle told him at least a few hours. "I've got to get back to my employer." He explained, turning to take his leave of her. He made it 12 paces, then took an arrow through his heart. Two vines then grabbed at his ankle and wrist, tearing his limbs from his body in a swift and violent motion. In horrible pain and on the brink of death, the last thing the man saw was the head of the arrow that was now sticking through his chest turn to a a colony of deadly mushrooms, which spread up his chest and neck as he breathed his last breath.

Back in the city, Lestelle took her leave of her group. The payment from the assassin was enough for at least 2 months of rent and food. She left her old friends with a large garden of the hallucinogenic mushrooms and taught them the basics on how to grow them without her help, and told them that, should they even need another body disposed of, she would ask for a reasonable amount of money. Needless to say, the group had to agree.

Since then, Lestelle has lived rather peacefully. She has devoted much of her time towards cataloging the jungle's flora and mapping the local cave systems in hopes of perhaps finding her old friend Zetia, or at least what remains of her. The threat of beasts or the rare hostile tribal have kept her abilities sharp, and the regular commission of her disposal abilities by increasingly powerful (and wealthy) clients has allowed her a rather comfortable life, affording to purchase tier after tier of a residential building near the edge of the slums. She now owns all four floors, with all but the top level devoted to her gardens. In the past year, she's began making anough money to start sending a few silvers a month to her parents, who's small business has since thrived.

OOC

RP Sample: Kaegan was dreading what lay behind the door to Soraya's quarters. Almost everyone had heard the cries coming from behind her door. Gruesome, painful cries. There were thuds against the walls, and the sounds of breaking glass.

Kaegan didn't bother to knock when he opened the door. At the base of the door, there was blood, and on the doorknob on the inside, blood was streaked across it. Kaegan looked around the corner, where the entire floor was covered in glass, likely from broken vases. The remains of a wooden chair lay beside Soraya's overturned desk.

Kaegan then turned his head the other way, towards his captain's bed. A trail of blood led from the door to there, and on the floor beside the bed lay Soraya.

Kaegan ran over to her, turning her over onto her back. Blood was dried around her mouth. "Captain! Captain!" He yelled, her eyes not opening. "Soraya!" A sudden cough sent specks of blood onto his face, and Soraya's eyes slowly opened.

"Captain?" Kaegan asked.

Soraya blinked rapidly, and winced as she tried to sit up. "It... It hurt, so much that I..." She coughed up more blood. "I couldnt control myself. I fell and tried to catch myse--" Soraya gripped her abdomen and cried out in pain. Kaegan had heard women in labor, and this sounded much worse. She gripped his arm, her nails tearing gashes into his bicep, her palm breaking blood vessels. He just took it, placing his other hand on top of the one on her abdomen.

She finished the cry, and began gasping for air, dry heaving a couple times. When she had regained herself, she continued. "I tried to catch myself, but knocked over the vases. I cut my hands and legs on the glass." Another painful wince, with gasps for breath. "I couldnt get the door open because of the pain, and I fell back against the door when the next wave of pain came.

"Then I crawled over here, but I passed out before I could get on the bed." Kaegan looked down, confused as to what was happening. "Get me onto the bed. Please, I--" Another wave of pain swept across her. This time her hand missed his arm, this time scraping across his chest, tearing open his thin shirt. Drips of Kaegan's blood fell onto Soraya, screaming in pain.
