Lestelle's fingers scraped against the leather inside of her first pouch. Only two left she though, unlacing the knot on the second pouch filled with Violet Torchshrooms. One Violet Torchshroom gave off as much light as two of the Scarlett Torchshrooms that filled her first pouch. Whatever dug these tunnels must have been massive. Lestelle thought, touching the first Violet Torchshroom to the tunnel wall, turning the area from a dim red to a bright purple.

Lestelle's cloth mask was tight around her mouth. She had passed the clusters of Devil's Tombstone several minutes ago, but did not want to risk inhaling any stray spores. A long root hung from the ceiling of the 7 foot tall tunnel. Lestelle laid another Torchshroom, then raised her hands to near the root. After a few seconds, the root snapped to the side, and grew onto the side of the tunnel. Finally, the roots are getting softer. I can't believe how deep the Mbari roots go. They must be longer than the tree itself!

She continued down the tunnel, placing a torchshroom every few yards. The deeper she went, the more roots hung from the ceiling. Lestelle shivered as a cold breeze blew by. Where could a draft be coming from? Lestelle rounded corner, and saw her answer.

A sheer 20 foot drop down to a large, egg shaped chasm, about 50 feet across. Against the far wall, a large cluster of Scarlett Torchshrooms grew amongst a large bed of moss. Holes dotted the ceiling, their chutes extending up to the surface. They were at an angle, and just wide enough for a human to climb down. "Looks like I found a shortcut for next time." A cool breeze blew in from the chutes, with small stones falling out sporadically. A two foot wide root stood like a pillar in the center of the room, with patches of moss and mushrooms growing along it. At the base of the wooden pillar, hundreds of smaller roots twisted and braided their way to cover much of the stone floor with their tendrils.

"Wow" Lestelle sighed. She untied the knot behind her head, and took her cloth mask off. The breeze would keep any of those spores out of here. She planted a few torchshrooms on the ledge, then stepped back into the tunnel behind her. A thin root wrapped itself around her hand, and she walked back to the ledge with the growing root. She climbed over the ledge, and slowly lowered herself down to the floor.

"What is this?" Lestelle said rubbing her hand across the thick moss on the root. She planted another torchshroom, then drew her dagger out, cutting a bit of moss off to inspect it. Looks like Painter's Moss. Lestelle looked up from the moss and scanned the edges of the room. That means there must be some... Her eyes scanned up from the floor to the walls. There! She drew her bow and knocked an arrow. Three Bulbs hung from a single vine, which Lestelle took aim at. An arrow shot through the vine, and the bulbs fell to the floor.

As Lestelle bent over to pick up the Cheeko bulbs, she heard a soft clang of metal. Then another. Lestelle stood up and turned around as two more clangs sounded. "Hello?" she said. The clangs sounded faster and louder, and Lestelle drew her bow again. "Hello!?" she called out, knocking an arrow into place and pulling it back.

To her side a dagger fell from the ceiling, and Lestelle jumped in surprise. Walking over to inspect the blade, she looked up into the chute it had fallen from and called out again "Hello?"
